This Privacy Policy describes how Roey's Map ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Roey's Map mobile application ("App").

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

a) Account and Identity Information

• Name and display name
• Email address
• Profile photo (if provided via Google Sign-In or uploaded manually)
• Your described connection to Roey (collected at registration)
• Account status and role

b) Location Data

• Precise GPS location — used to show your position on the map, bias location search results, and enable check-ins at places. Location is only accessed while the App is in use.
• Coordinates of places you create or check in to are stored in our database.

c) Photos, Videos, and Audio

• You may upload photos, videos, and audio recordings as part of "memories" attached to map places.
• These files are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage and linked to your account and the relevant place.
• We access your device camera, photo library, and microphone only when you choose to upload media.

d) User-Generated Content

• Place names, descriptions, and stories you submit
• Comments, tips, and memory text you write
• Likes, saves, and check-in actions

e) Usage and Activity Data

• Actions you take in the App (adding places, check-ins, comments, likes, media uploads)
• Leaderboard points and earned achievements
• Activity counts (e.g. total check-ins, places created, photos uploaded)
• Timestamps of your last activity

2. How We Use Your Information

• Operate the App — display the map, show places, enable check-ins and memories
• Authentication — verify your identity and manage your account session
• Social features — show your name, photo, and content to other approved users of the App
• Leaderboard and achievements — calculate scores and award badges based on your activity
• Location search — send your search queries and approximate location to third-party geocoding services to return relevant place suggestions
• Translation — translate content between English and Hebrew using Google Cloud Translation when you use the translation feature
• Security and administration — detect abuse, enforce our user approval process, and manage admin functions

3. Information Shared With Others

a) Other App Users

The App is a private community for approved users. The following information is visible to other approved users:

• Your display name and profile photo
• Places, memories, and comments you create
• Your leaderboard rank and score
• Check-in history at places

b) Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Storage) — stores all user data, place data, and uploaded media. Firebase Privacy Policy

• Google Maps — renders the map within the App. Google Privacy Policy
• Google Cloud Translation API — translates text content between English and Hebrew. Google Privacy Policy
• Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) — reverse geocoding (converting GPS coordinates to place names). Queries include coordinates only. OpenStreetMap Privacy Policy
• Photon (Komoot) — location search autocomplete. Queries include your search text and approximate location. Komoot Privacy Policy

We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email address below. Uploaded media files may take additional time to be removed from storage systems.

5. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We rely on Google Firebase's built-in security, authentication, and access controls to protect your data. Access to the Firebase project is restricted to authorized administrators only.

Despite our efforts, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws (including GDPR and CCPA), such as:

• The right to access the personal information we hold about you
• The right to request correction of inaccurate data
• The right to request deletion of your data
• The right to object to or restrict certain processing
